Join us Thursday, November 14th at 3 pm in the National Music Museum as Curator Deborah Check Reeves presents an engaging session on modern Gamelan notation, which is completely different than Western musical notation. She will share the fascinating way the written symbols relate to the instruments in the Gamelan ensemble.
The National Music Museum is located at the intersection of Clark and Yale Streets on the USD campus.
This program on written notation forms another link in the events tied together for the Books in Context series. Our book this month, Snow Flower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See, is related to nu shu, which was a form of secret writing developed in China by women so they could communicate with one another. Copies of the book are available through the library and the book discussion will be held Wednesday, December 4th at 7 pm in the Library.
