It’s Back-to-School season, and September is right around the corner. Did you know that September is Library Card Sign-Up month? We are eager to get you and your family signed up for the most useful card in town! Studies show that children who are read to in the home and who use the library perform better in school. Since September is Library Card Sign-up Month, the EBSVPL is joining with the American Library Association and public libraries nationwide to make sure that every student has the most import school supply of all – a free library card.
Resources at the public library are available to anyone who has a library card. Students can turn to the library for materials, programs and knowledgeable library staff that support academic achievement. An exciting new season of After School Programs begins in September, and continues through November. These programs are open to all elementary students, Kindergarten through Fifth grades. Snacks included!
Homework Helpers – Every Tuesday and Thursday; 3:30-5 pm
Today’s libraries aren’t only a place of quiet study, but also creative and engaging community centers where students can collaborate using new technologies, learn how to use a 3D printer or just relax with peers. Our library offers access to a variety of print and digital resources, including online resources that students can access from home with a library card, like e-books, online databases, and more, that can be accessed in person or online.
Stop by our Circulation Desk and see just how easy it is (and did we mention free?) to get the smartest card around.
The SD Code Club returns this Monday evening, February 23rd, 5:30-7 pm in the Tech Center.
Have you ever…
played a video game and thought it would be cool to design your own?
wanted to build your own website?
had an idea for the next great app?
Then the South Dakota Code Club is for you! Area teens are invited to the SDCC’s monthly meetings at the Edith B. Siegrist Vermillion Public Library in Vermillion, SD. Bring a friend (or two or three), hang out and learn how to code! Each month we focus on a different markup language, with the idea that we will move into project-focused meetings as we grow.
Code Club meets on the last Monday of each month, from 5:30-7 pm in the Tech Center. Feel free to bring your own laptop or other devices. Snacks will be served!
