Dakota PlayersStop by tomorrow for the final day of our Dakota Players visit.  The kids have been working hard with the Dakota Players all week, learning lots of fun stuff about creating characters, designing for theater, singing, dancing, etc.  They’ll be putting on a simple show & tell performance for parents and the public.  Come cheer them on!

This week-long residency has been generously supported by the South Dakota Arts Council, South Dakotans for the Arts, and the Board of Trustees of the Edith B. Siegrist Vermillion Public Library.

Celebrate Earth (Every) Day

The Edith B. Siegrist Vermillion Public Library will participate in the Earth (Every) Day events throughout our community with a book discussion of EcoMind: Changing the Way We Think, to Create the World We Want by Frances Moore Lappé on Monday, April 21st. The discussion, led by Dean Spader, will be held in the Kozak Room at 7 pm. Whether or not you have read the book, you are more than welcome to come to the discussion.

The author, Frances Moore Lappé, will be speaking at the USD campus at 7 pm on Tuesday, April 22nd. A full week in store to celebrate Earth (Every) Day with these events and more, which can be found on the Earth Day calendar at the Sustainable Vermillion website.

Learn how to start many of your vegetables from seeds in order to a) jumpstart your garden indoors b) get wider varieties of plants from organic seeds c) save money by growing your own transplants….and much more! This class will provide you with a handout listing all the necessary materials, demonstrate how to mix your own potting soil, give start times and procedures for maximum germination, along with advice for lighting, temperature and fertilization after sprouts occur. Learn how to harden off and transplant for best results.

Learn to discern the difference between an artist made print and what is generically called a print. This presentation will focus on the tools and processes an artist uses to create original works of art in a variety of printmaking mediums, including etching, engraving, woodcut, silkscreen and more. You will learn to recognize the visible differences between handmade prints and commercial offset reproductions. Experience the visual impact of actual prints in this informal, enlightening evening!
