Fiber Artist Phyllis Packard

joins us for our March Artist & Authors presentation. She will share her work with us tomorrow evening, Wednesday, March 4th, at 7 pm in the Kozak Community Room.loom

Phyllis is a working artist residing in Vermillion. She has been a long-time small business owner, director of the Solid Waste Department for the City of Vermillion, and currently serves on the Clay County Commission. She uses the ancient tools, a multi-harness loom and shuttles to combine warp and weft in a mix of tapestry, pattern, and plain weave.

Her artistic imagery is primarily landscape interjected with seascape and mindscape. Recently she has been fascinated by the feel, structure and color of weaving and creating shawls and scarves that are highly utilitarian.

Altered Books!

Our Picture This series presents an Altered Book workshop this

Saturday, February 7th, 2-4 pm.
We all love to read and learn from books, but we can take our passion for books one step further— any book, old or new, can become an altered book! The transformation can involve any number of interventions—from adding materials to erasing and cutting out bits of the original. The degree of alteration can be minimal, or it can be a total obliteration of what was there.
We will investigate the work of several prominent book artists, and spend some time experimenting!  Used books, a selection of basic cutting, gluing, and drawing tools will be provided.
