The VPL’s Artist & Authors series will host author and poet Frank Pommersheim on Tuesday, March 14th at 7 pm. This presentation is free and open to the public, and takes place in the Kozak Community Room.
Pommersheim writes extensively in the field of Indian law. He is the author of Braid of Feathers (American Indian Law and Contemporary Tribal Life), Broken Landscape: Indians, Indian Tribes, and the Constitution, more than 40 law review articles, and more than 125 judicial opinions. His newest book entitled Tribal Justice: 25 Years as a Tribal Appellate Justice came out in 2015.
Professor Pommersheim has received the University of South Dakota Belbas-Larson Award for Excellence in Teaching, the South Dakota Peace and Justice Center Reconciliation Award, and the John Wesley Jackson Award as the Outstanding Professor of Law. He has also been nominated for the University of South Dakota President’s Award for Research Excellence. In the fall of 2016, Frank received the Distinguished Achievement in the Humanities Award from the SD Humanities Council.
Frank is also a poet. His most recent chapbook is Local Memory and Karma (The Buddha Correspondence, Vol. 2).
Do you love browsing through cookbooks and trying new recipes or cooking techniques? Do you love socializing and chatting over good food? Cook the Book is a new book club that brings together patrons who love to cook over a meal and conversation about cooking and recipes. You don’t have to be a gourmet chef to participate!
Our first book is Cooked, by Michael Pollan. Each participant will choose a recipe ahead-of-time and prepare it for the first meeting to share; it’s that simple. It will only be necessary to make one regular-sized recipe – no need for doubling. Subsequent meetings after the initial meeting will all conform to a particular food theme, chosen by the group. Books will be available beginning early-January. Please contact the library’s Circulation Desk to sign up and pick up a copy of the book.

You are invited to make your mark with the Vermillion Theater Community Mural Project!
This informational meeting introduces the new community based mural project at the Vermillion Theater, to be created in partnership with The Vermillion Downtown Cultural Association. USD painting professor Amber Hansen, Rebecca Froehlich and Carolina Pineda will give a presentation on the community mural making process, discuss how to be part of the design team, and take questions and suggestions. Everyone is welcome to attend, and refreshments will be provided.

Do you love browsing through cookbooks or trying new recipes and cooking techniques? The Edith B. Siegrist Vermillion Public Library is pleased to resume our most popular book club – Cook the Book! On Mondays at noon, beginning on February 6th, and continuing through March 27th, our tastiest adult program will introduce fellow foodies to new tastes, cooking techniques, and great books about cooking.
This unique book group brings together patrons who love to cook for a shared meal and conversation about cooking. Our introductory book for this season will be Cooked, by Michael Pollan. To participate, drop by the Library Circulation desk to pick up a copy of the book.
Participants will choose recipes inspired by book to prepare and share for the first meeting. Subsequent meetings will be themed according to the group’s choices.
