VPL is ‘Exemplary’ Library!

Your public library, the Edith B. Siegrist Vermillion Public Library, was again accredited as an ‘exemplary’ library for 2017. Library Director Daniel Burniston recently traveled to Pierre during SDLA Legislative Day, to receive the commendation. State Librarian Daria Bossman and South Dakota Library Association President Danielle Loftus were on hand to present awards.

South Dakota Libraries submit to voluntary accreditation through the SD State Library on a yearly basis. To be accredited at the Exemplary level a library must meet all of the Essential standards (first level), all of the Enhanced standards (middle level), and all but two of the Exemplary standards (highest level). The comprehensive list of standards used to accredit our state’s public libraries can be found at http://library.sd.gov/LIB/DEV/SDPubLibStandards-2017Guide.pdf.
It takes the work of a great number of dedicated folks to achieve an exemplary accreditation. The Library would like to thank and share this honor with our Library Board of Trustees, the Vermillion Public Library Foundation, the Friends of the Vermillion Public Library organization, and Vermillion City Council.
