It may seem like the Summer Reading Program is winding down (where does the time go?), but that doesn’t mean there aren’t still a BUNCH of fun things to catch before it’s all over. And keep reading! We’ve got incentives to give out for each week, and you can check in at ANY time to collect your incentives… up until the end of the program, that is – which is Friday, July 28th.
Here are a couple of the fun programs coming. See the remaining program sessions listed on the SRP calendar at the bottom of the post.
All Summer Reading Program participants are invited to participate in this year’s SRP End Party at Prentis Plunge Pool! This year’s party will be held on Thursday, July 27th from 1 to 3 pm. Here at the VPL, we’ve also got some workshops cooked up that will help you get the most out of this rare eclipse event! On Thursday, July 20th – as part of our SRP Workshop session – we will lead kids in the creation of a solar viewer. We will also distribute eclipse glasses to all participants. Then again on Saturday, August 12th at 1 pm, we will lead another solar viewer workshop that will be open to anyone in the community. We will have plenty of eclipse glasses to share, so please feel free to drop by and pick yourself up a pair:)

The VPL’s first Books & Brews of the 2017 season was an upscale affair held on Friday, June 16th. Past and present members of Vermillion Standard Time were on hand to provide some fantastic, jazzy accompaniment to our formal unveiling of all the recent tech upgrades the Library has received, due to the continued support of the Vermillion Public Library Foundation and the Friends of the Vermillion Public Library.
Director Dan Burniston emceed the informal evening of revelry, refreshments, and community, although the thanks expressed were formal and heartfelt. Our community enjoys one of the premier public libraries in the state, due in large part to the dedicated and tremendous support of our partner organizations. This evening served as just one small gesture of gratitude toward all those who work so hard to make us look good!
And speaking of looking good, we’ve put together a little video of the night’s highlights, which can be found on our youtube channel: www.youtube.com/watch?v=DiVBvlwCcbw.
RBDigital is streamlining its patron interface, as of June 27th. For the first time in the industry, audiobooks, magazines, and eBooks will be available in one easy-to-use app. Other key features include:
– A significantly improved user experience
– App-based patron notifications to help with tech support and engagement
– Faster, easier search
– Exclusive content
RBDigital will be migrating the app and website at approximately 8 pm on June 26th. Unfortunately, patrons will likely experience downtime during the 14-hour migration period. The new app and website will be live by the morning of June 27th.
this Friday, June 16th at 7 pm.
The Board of Trustees of the Edith B. Siegrist Vermillion Public Library, the Foundation of the Vermillion Public Library, and the Friends of the Vermillion Public Library invite the community to a special session of our Books & Brews program on Friday, June 16th, from 7 – 9 pm. This season’s premier event is intended as a reveal of a number of wonderful technological upgrades to our library, generously supported by the Vermillion Public Library Foundation and Friends of the Vermillion Public Library. Participants will enjoy live music, light refreshments and beverages, and an engaging social evening while touring the Library facilities.
Adults 21 & up are welcome to attend.
