Enjoy the Labor Day weekend, Vermillionaires! The Library will be closed in observance of this holiday on Monday, September 5th, ALL DAY:)
Beginning next week – Sunday, September 11th – we will now be open on Sundays from 1 to 5 pm.
Things are really picking up around here with the impending return of Children’s and Adult programming! Our Adult programming will return on Tuesday, September 6th, with a very special session of our Long Overdue series.
We are excited to host the Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity of Clay and Yankton Counties as she provides the community with an overview of the work they are busy doing in our communities, and ways for you to be involved. Takes place in the Kozak Community Room at 7 pm.
Did you know that free financial counseling is offered here at the Library via Lutheran Social Services Center for Financial Resources? The next appointments will take place on Thursday, August 25th. Call 800-568-2401 or email info@LssSD.org for more information and to set up your appointment. Takes place in the Small Conference Room.
Beginning in September, these sessions will take place on the first Mondays of each month, from 2-5 pm and on the third Thursdays from 10 am – 5 pm.

On Thursday, August 4th from 2-4 pm, the Edith B. Siegrist Vermillion Public Library will host a public reception for retiring staff member Shelly Koller. Says Acting Director Wendy Nilson, “Shelly has been the heart & soul of the library and will be greatly missed.”
Shelly Koller joined the staff at the Library in 1991 as the Circulation Supervisor. In her time with the organization she has seen a number of profound changes take place within the Library, from the introduction of digitized records, to the implementation of various state-wide searchable databases, to the major renovation and expansion which took place in 2013. She is one of the most recognizable faces in the library due to her position at the Circulation Desk, and is the staff member with whom the vast majority of patrons interact during their visits. “Jane Larson hired me in the 1991 and I am grateful to have had the opportunity to work at the Library. I will truly miss my job, all the wonderful patrons I have met, and the friendships I’ve made over the years.”
Patrons and the public are encouraged to drop by during the reception, which will be held in the Kozak Community Room.
The end of our exciting Summer Reading Program, anyway.
We will wind down another eventful summer on Wednesday, July 27th at 1 pm, with a participant party out behind the library. Patrons are invited to join in our ‘Cool Down Party’ – an afternoon of water games, pizza, ice cream and prizes in honor of their participation in this summer’s program. Be ready to get wet! Those who wish to attend are asked to reserve a spot in advance by either visiting our website at http://
*In the case of inclement weather, the party will be rescheduled!*
