Summer Reading Program Kick-Off Party

The ‘Local Heros’ Kick-Off Party for the 2015 Summer Reading Program is here – Monday, June 1st, from 1 – 3 pm!

Local heroes such as Vermillion Police, Fire Department and EMTs will be on hand in the parking lot from 1-2 pm, and the party will commence inside from 2-3 pm. Superhero games, crafts, photo booth, snacks and more. While you’re here, you can pick up your program calendar and reading log.

The Summer Reading Program, which takes place during the months of June and July, includes things like costume creation, group games, physical challenges, LEGO robotics, creative projects, science and engineering challenges, and much, much more.
The 2015 Summer Reading Program, Every Hero Has a Story, is open to young people, preschool through young-adult, with programs, prize drawings, storytimes, reading clubs, and more. Families are invited to join the Read-to-Me program; adults are encouraged to register for the “Escape the Ordinary” adult reading program, with prize drawings available. Dakota PlayersStop by tomorrow for the final day of our Dakota Players visit.  The kids have been working hard with the Dakota Players all week, learning lots of fun stuff about creating characters, designing for theater, singing, dancing, etc.  They’ll be putting on a simple show & tell performance for parents and the public.  Come cheer them on!

This week-long residency has been generously supported by the South Dakota Arts Council, South Dakotans for the Arts, and the Board of Trustees of the Edith B. Siegrist Vermillion Public Library.

Join Dr. David Swanson for an afternoon exploration of birds!

1 pm til….

We will begin in the Kozak Room for a short program on the basics of birdwatching and a brief review of common birds found in our area. Then we’ll head out on a birding tour to Cotton Park in Vermillion to get a look at some local birds!

Wear comfortable shoes and be ready to take a nice walk….weather permitting!

Meet the Summer Reading Program Coordinators

The Edith B. Seigrist Vermillion Public Library would like to welcome Susan Heggestad and Beth Knedler, our Summer Reading Program Coordinators.

They are hard at work organizing and making final preparations for the big Super Science Fair and Teen Kick-off that mark the beginning of an event-packed two months of activities at the library for kid, teens and adults. The Super Science Fair Kick-off will run from 1 to 3 pm on Monday, June 2nd and the Teen Kick-off Party begins at 4 pm also on the Monday, June 2nd. The Super Science Fair will bring together scientists from the area who will share displays, exhibits and experiments at their booths. Don’t miss out on the fun and the start of the season. Kids can pick up their program bags with all the information and reading log. The Teen kick-off event will also feature fun, food and science-related events!

The Fizz! Boom! READ! Kickoff for kids will be a Super Science Fair….June 2, 2014 anytime between 1:00 and 3:00 pm in the Kozak Community Room.

Visit with scientists, visit the displays and have some mad scientist escapades! Enjoy a snack and pick up your program bag, complete with your reading log and all the information you will need for enjoying all the events in the Summer Reading Program!

4 pm.
