This Week!

We are excited to host what is sure to be a lovely discussion this Wednesday evening with community member Kaiya Ansorge.  Her presentation, part of our Long Overdue series, is entitled “Spirit and Soul Care in our Daily Lives”, and takes place at 7 pm in the Kozak Community Room.

This session will begin with a guided meditation followed by a discussion of some of our practices and rituals. The goal is to help each of us learn new approaches to soul care as well as bring to awareness those rituals that help us center and calm ourselves in order to bring energy and delight into the world. Please wear comfortable clothing.

Kaiya Ansorge holds a Master’s degree in philosophical theology and a PhD in Religion with a specialty in spirituality.

Fine Fiction Book Club in October

On Wednesday, October 15th, at 7 pm we will be discussing the intriguing new novel by author T.C. Boyle, “When the Killing’s Done”.

whenthekillongsdonePrincipally set on the wild Channel Islands off the coast of California, T.C. Boyle’s new novel is a gripping adventure with a timely theme. Alma Boyd Takesue is a National Park Service biologist spearheading the efforts to save the islands’ native creatures from invasive species. Her antagonist, Dave LaJoy, is a local businessman who is fiercely opposed to the killing of any animals whatsoever and will go to any lengths to subvert her plans. As their confrontation plays out in a series of scenes escalating in violence, drama, and danger, When the Killing’s Done relates a richly humane tale about the dominion we attempt to exert, for better or worse, over the natural world.

A limited number of copies of When the Killing’s Done are available for checkout at the Circulation Desk. Once you are finished with the book, kindly return it so others may have a chance to read it before the discussion.  For more information, call us here at the library -677.7060.

New version of OverDrive app available

It’s been announced that there is a new version of the OverDrive app for Android, iOS (iPhone/iPad/iPod touch), and Windows 8! This update features the long-awaited elimination of the Adobe Authorization step from the app installation process – one of the most frequently requested enhancements. We expect this change will significantly reduce the need for outside support and will provide excellent benefit to users like syncing reading progress across multiple devices.

One Book South Dakota
Dakota: A Spiritual Geography by Kathleen Norris
Book Discussion: Wednesday, September 24th
7 pm, Kozak Community Room
Discussion facilitated by Molly Rozum,
Associate Professor of History, USD

The One Book South Dakota is sponsored by the South Dakota Humanities Council.
We can read a book alone, but until we discuss it, the process doesn’t seem complete. Often what one person says about a book enhances our understanding and shapes our perceptions of the book’s themes and meaning. The One Book South Dakota program exists to encourage this exchange through reading one book as a community.
