November 1st marks the beginning of National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo), a fun, seat-of-your-pants approach to creative writing. All over the world, participants begin the process of working towards the goal of writing a 50,000-word novel by 11:59 pm on November 30th.
NaNoWriMo is for anyone who has ever thought about writing a novel. During NaNoWriMo the Edith B. Siegrist Vermillion Public Library is participating in the Come Write In (CWI) program, which connects libraries, bookstores, and other neighborhood spaces with their local NaNoWriMo participants to build vibrant writing communities. Every November, thousands of writers around the world congregate at CWI spaces to pursue their creative dreams and write the first draft of their novel. The VPL is the perfect location for settling into your creative project, with comfy chairs, a fireplace, and plenty of tables to spread out on!
We are also holding a prize drawing for National Novel Writing Month! Check in at the VPL on Facebook or Instagram, or tag the VPL (@VermillionPublicLibrary) in a picture of yourself writing in the library, during the month of November to be entered to win a book-themed prize pack! The winner will be announced in the first week of December.
