Pinochle
Mar 2 @ 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm

Come to the library and play Pinochle!

Pinochle is a trick-takingAce-Ten card game typically for two to four players and played with a 48-card deck. It is derived from the card game bezique; players score points by trick-taking and also by forming combinations of cards into melds. It is thus considered part of a “trick-and-meld” category which also includes the game belote. Each hand is played in three phases: bidding, melds, and tricks. The standard game today is called “partnership auction pinochle.” (Wikipedia)

Cook the Book
Mar 3 @ 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm

Do you love browsing through cookbooks or trying new recipes and cooking techniques? Consider joining our most popular book club – Cook the Book!

Once a month, our tastiest adult program will introduce fellow foodies to new tastes, cooking techniques, and great books about cooking. This unique book group brings together patrons who love to cook for a shared meal and conversation about food and cooking.

To participate, choose a recipe to prepare and share for the first meeting. Each month there is a different theme, so check with library staff to see what the group will be discussing, and what kind of recipe to bring!

It will only be necessary to make one regular-sized recipe – no need to double! Subsequent meetings will be themed according to the group’s choices.

Transgender 101
Mar 4 @ 10:30 am – 12:00 pm
Transgender is an umbrella term used to describe people whose gender identity or gender expression differs from the sex they were assigned at birth.

Transgender people often face bigotry, discrimination, and hatred from their families, friends, coworkers, places of worship, and government. These reactions can stem from fear and a basic misunderstanding of the transgender community. As such, the Vermillion Public Library would like to invite the public to attend an informative presentation by Dr. Mark Daniels, who will be talking to us about sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, the Transformation Project, avoiding misunderstandings, use of names and personal pronouns, and how we can support and affirm our transgender community members. This program is free and open to the public. You will have two opportunities to attend a session at the library. Session one will be Wednesday, March 4th at 10:30 am. Session two will be Thursday, March 12th at 6:00 pm. Both will take place in the Kozak Room.

Dr. Mark Daniels (he/him/his) is a clinical psychologist who serves as an Integrated Health Therapist.

(Note: To allow all library staff the opportunity to attend this presentation, the rest of the building will be closed during the March 4th session until noon. The Kozak Room will be the only room accessible to patrons between 10:30 am and noon.)
