The Vermillion Public Library offers an online catalog, making it easy for patrons to find and reserve library materials.
To access the catalog, click on the “Catalog & Your Account” menu item. You will be taken to the OPAC (Online Public Access Catalog) homepage:
From the OPAC homepage you can choose to search the catalog or log in to your Vermillion Public Library card account.
To perform a search, place your cursor inside the search bar and type in the title, author, subject, or series of the item(s) you are looking for. Hit “Enter” or “Go” to perform a basic keyword search, or select one of the blue buttons to define your search parameters.
With “Advanced” and “Media” searches you can specify what types of media (books, DVDs, audiobooks, or eBooks) you would like to search for.
The “Keyword,” “Title,” “Author,” “Subject,” and “Series” buttons tell the search engine what the words you typed in the search bar represent.
To access your account, click the “Log On” button in the upper right corner of the screen:
A small popup window will appear that asks for your Username (your library card barcode) and Password (your last name in lowercase). After entering the appropriate info, hit “Log On”.
After you log in, you will be taken to your profile page. From here you can see what items you have on reserve, or checked out, plus any fines you may have accumulated.
The first tab is your Reserves tab. You can view which items you have on reserve, and whether they are ready for pick up:
The next tab takes you to “Items Out”. This is where you will go to review what is currently checked out on your account, as well as renewing any books that may have upcoming due dates:
You can see any associated fines that belong to each item, as well as how many times the item has already been renewed.
You can renew an item up to two times as long as no other patrons have a hold on it. If you would like to renew an item, select the check box next to the item in question, then hit the “Renew” button.
The “Fines” tab allows you to view any fines you may have on your account.
Note: At this time we do not have the ability to accept payment for fines online. Please stop by the library circulation desk to pay.
The “Interests” tab lets you view any Bookbags or Watch Lists you have made:
Bookbags: You have the option of leaving items in your default “Temporary Bookbag” or saving them permanently as “Saved Bookbags”. For example, this account has one “Temporary Bookbag” with 85 items, and one Bookbag with 140 items labeled “To Read”:
To view a Bookbag list, click on the Bookbag name or on one of the corresponding “View” links. On the list page you can see the availability of the items in your Bookbag, select an item to reserve it, remove items, or even print a copy of the whole list!
Back on the “Interests” page, you will also have an option to view your Watch Lists. A Watch List is a collection of terms you have chosen. If you cannot find an item you are looking for, or if you would like to see more of a particular author, series, or subject, you can add the terms to this list. You will then receive email notifications to let you know when items matching your terms become available!
