Have you ever wanted to learn to play the ukulele? Just love to get together with others and play music?
Beginning with our Fall line-up of programs, the Library is pleased to offer Free Ukulele lessons to patrons aged 7 & up. No musical experience or background necessary; the ukulele is easier to learn than the guitar (and more affordable too). No ukulele? No problem – we will have some ukuleles for you to borrow. These lessons will officially begin on Friday, September 16th at 4 pm, and Saturday, September 17th at 3:30 pm.
The sessions are as follows:
Fridays – 4-4:45 pm (7 & 8 yr olds)
4:45-5:30 pm (9 & 10 yr olds)
Saturdays – 3:30-4:15 pm (11 & 12 yr olds)
4:15-5 pm (13 & up)
These sessions are free, but space is limited! Call or stop by the Circulation Desk to sign up.
Instructor Joseph Ahuna is a USD graduate student from Kaneohe, Hawaii. He played the ukulele in a Hawaiian band that traveled around the world, as well as playing the ukulele at the 2002 Winter Olympics. He has over 20 years of experience performing and playing the ukulele, and has an entire season of fun curriculum planned that will teach the basic chords, songs, and history of the ukulele. There are even plans to put on a simple recital at the end of the term, which ends December 17th. For more information, feel free to call the Library at 605-677-7060.
